Job Description

Protenus is looking for a DevOps engineer to help build and manage the market leading solution to the $5.6BN crisis in Health IT security. This role is tasked with engineering technical solutions for scaling, security & automation. This is a rare position that includes an equity component for a critical team member who will who will drive and maintain the product operation of the company. You will be part of a team that detects and defends against malicious threats to confidential patient records. We are a fully funded, fast growing company working with unprecedented access to incredibly rich data to solve huge problems in healthcare.
You'll be joining us at a critical time of scale out for the company, as we've rapidly grown our customer base and matured our product. Technical challenges abound with handling one of the largest health data repositories and operating a unique, intelligent solution in healthcare privacy. You'll be collaborating with a talented team of engineers across multiple disciplines (DevOps, Security, Software & Data) as we continue scaling the platform, working with the latest AWS offerings & whatever tools you want to bring to bear.Protenus helps health systems protect patient privacy in the electronic medical record by using advanced analytics to detect privacy violations in real-time. The Protenus platform consists of both a continuously learning analytical engine to detect inappropriate accesses, as well as a next-generation forensics interface that puts necessary information at the fingertips of compliance and security officers. By changing detection and resolution times from months to minutes, and removing the false positives and noise that plague other insider threat systems, Protenus ensures that every patient, from high-profile celebrities to everyday families, is treated like a VIP with respect to their patient data.
 

What You Will be Doing

    • Function as a member of our DevOps team, assisting with the continued development of the Protenus SaaS platform as we scale it from 10s to 100s of clients while integrating new data flows, developing analytical models and expanding into other product markets.
    • Participate in product development with leadership team meetings and communicate with advisors regularly on all matters regarding technology developments.
    • Assist in defining and executing the cloud architecture of the company.

Requirements

    • Ability to operationalize products in commercial cloud environments (AWS).
    • Hands on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks, templating languages, and artifact creation:
    • Frameworks such as:  Cloud Formation, Terraform, AWS-Ansible, Python with boto, or Open Cloud or Google Compute equivalents.
    • Templating languages:  Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, similar system configuration tools.
    • Containerization via Docker, automated AMI creation in AWS.
    • Experience with CI/CD automation using tools like Git, Jenkins, Spinnaker, GitLabCI, AWS CodeCommit/CodeDeploy
    • Knowledge of key AWS services:  
    • Networking with VPCs, Security Groups, network ACLs, ELB & Route 53
    • Compute using ECS with EC2 instances (spot & on-demand), EBS & auto-scaling for high availability.
    • Encrypted Data storage via S3, RDS & EBS via KMS managed keys.
    • Strong scripting ability and a love of automation.  We’re heavily invested in an Infrastructure-as-Code approach, so you need to be comfortable with developing in languages popular in this space:  Python, Ruby, JavaScript, etc.
    • Ability to communicate with clarity and precision. We care about this almost as much as your technical knowledge.
    • Comfort working in an Agile (Kanban or Scrum) workflow with other technical peers and colleagues. Collaborative mindset with a sense of personal ownership for your work.

Desired Characteristics

    • Experience with elements of our application stack:  MongoDB, Scala, Spark, Java & JS
    • Experience with our BizOps stack: Google App Suite, Atlassian tools, MacOSX
    • An understanding of Health IT best-practices regarding PHI/PII & HIPAA
    • An understanding of Cybersecurity best-practices
